DW: Legend of the cybermen

Hey Guys,

welcome the 135th Big Finish Monthly Adventure ‘Legend of the cybermen’ with the sixth Doctor and Jamie. It also have a little surprise we also met Zoe. The story is placed in the Land Fiction. We know this Land from the story ‘The Mind Robber’.

Figuring out what is going on

This story is the last part of the three parter. So we find out what is behind all of it. The cybermen are invading the Land of Fiction. It seems logic… or not. All the people of the other stories were trying to help in the war against the cybermen. We have quiet a special group that is fighting here. We got Dracula, Alice and Artful Dodger that all fight together. Which actually on his own already create a great and interesting dynamic.

New questions

It seems logic that they all fight the cybermen and that cybermen found a way to convert the people of the Land of Fiction. But how are they came there and what do they want there? This the mystery we try to solve in this story. I really like how this whole adventure turns out.
I tried to solve this puzzle until the end and always thought of a new surprise.
There is a part where Jamie gets his memories back and I love what they did with it. How he questioned the Doctor. It is just single question that so many companions asked themself. ‘Why did he ever came back?’ It is not just Jamie and Zoe. He left Jo and Sarah-Jane… and he never got back. Once he left he never looks back.

Such a mess

I love the story. I love the silliness of all this characters fighting together and great to see the totally different characters in unlikely friendships. A friendship between Alice and Dracula? It is fun to see this. Zoe and Jamie back with Doctor is so great to see. You can hear how much he cares about these two. But with memories of Jamie it also creates a sadness about the reality of the Doctor. So yeah go and listen to the last adventure of Jamie, Zoe and the sixth Doctor.

DW: The Wreck of the Titan

Hey Guys,

welcome the 134th adventure of the Big Finish Monthly Range ‘The Wreck of the Titan’ with the sixth doctor and Jamie. Everyone that had listened to the previous adventure ‘The City of Spires‘ knows that this story will be impossible to place. It has a lot of dates but nothing is quite right.

The Titans

The story brings the Doctor and Jamie to the Titanic and of course exactly to the moment were the Titanic is about to hit the iceberg. But something is wrong on the ship. It seems to have only two people on board and doors lead to nowhere. Before the Doctor can find out what is going on, the land on the Titan. A ship that will crash with an iceberg.

New friends

The story has only a few characters on it. Mostly there are just four. Jamie, the Doctor, Tess/Myra and Teddy/John. It is really interesting to see the four of them interact. Jamie has a lot of time with Tess/Myra. It is so good to have Jamie back. I really love how easy Jamie can adjust to the situations. The world is new and changed but he just takes it and deals with it. He doesn’t know the words but he still understands what is going on. I missed him so much.

Listen to it

It is not just bringing back Jamie which is amazing but also the relationship he has with the sixth Doctor is so great. The story is such a mess. It is great to try figure out what is actually going on and how it all fits together. Also I am really excited to see where this all will lead. How they explain what was going on in these two stories and why Jamie still doesn’t remember the travels with the Doctor.

DW: The City of Spires

Hey Guys,

welcome to the 133rd Big Finish Main Range Adventure ‘The City of Spires’ with the sixth Doctor and Jamie McCrimmon. What can be better than another Doctor meeting one of the best companions ever. I really love Jamie. Jamie is like the Doctors best friend. The dates in this story are really complicated and I can’t say so much about the time with telling to much. What I can say is that Doctor things that Jamie looks like it was twenty or thrity years ago. It is taking place in Scottland.

The most alive person he met

Jamie and the Doctor parted in ‘The War Games‘. The Time Lords made Jamie forget everything about the Doctor except the first time they met. For Jamie it is like he never choose to travel with the Doctor. I still think that his and Zoe (and Donna) have one of the saddest endings. But all that is not part of this article. The Doctor is meeting Jamie again. What puts the Doctor a little of is that Jamie don’t remember him or better the other him. There are no memories of Polly or Ben. Jamie is a little different. The Doctor says that Jamie was one of the most alive persons he met. But now Jamie don’t have much hope and even when he still fights he thinks that they are already dead.

Nothing made sense

All the information given doesn’t make much sense. The Doctor realizes which figths this are but this doesn’t work with the time he things had gone by since he and Jamie had to part ways. Jamie not remembering him is another thing. But since when is there a Overlord and why are there oil-pumping maschines. For people like me that know almost nothing about Scotlands history you got the big mistakes like I already mentioned but there are a few names that appear and doesn’t seem to fit. I really love how this story plays out. It is like the travels with Klein or the Mila storyline. It is a three parter. So we don’t find all the answer and let us want to know how this will all play out.

DW: The Architects of History

Hey Guys,

welcome the 132nd Big Finish Main Range Adventure ‘The Architects of History’ with the seventh Doctor and Klein. The story takes place in 2044 in an alternate reality. Klein used the TARDIS to build a new Reich by creating new time lines again and agin until she likes it.

The web of time

Klein is using the TARDIS to eliminate traitors or other threats before they come up. She abusive the power she got. She had built a new Reich but it is never quiet right so she never stops. But in this story so many things happen that she hadn’t seen in the future. There are two ‘rebels’ that worked against Klein. We have the Doctor in a cell and three big ships of the Selachians. But the biggest problem for Klein is that the TARDIS gets destroyed.

The dark in the people

This story shows us again new sides of Klein. Who she is and who she became to get want she wants and never quiet get it. But we also get to see the darkest sides of the Doctor. How he manipulated and make alliance with people he shouldn’t. It even makes the Doctor uneasy. He doesn’t want to be this person. But in the end it is him. It is a part of him and he can’t erase it. He can and most likely will fight against this side over and over again.

Listen or not

I love it. The fight inside the Doctor. He wants to save everyone but he also need to repair the damage Klein did and he can’t do both. It is great. Klein and the Doctor trying to out smart each other. Both always on their heals to be not manipulate by the other. It is a really good story to end the story around Klein.

DW: Survival of the Fittest

Hey Guys,

welcome to the 131st Big Finish Main Range Adventures ‘Survival of the Fittest’ with the seventh Doctor and Klein. Before we get the main story there is a short story about Kleins history. We find out what let to the events of ‘Colditz‘ and give us an idea of what had happened in this story. This story takes place in 1962 and 1965 in Klein alternate timeline. The ‘Survival of the Fittest’ is placed around the year 2440.

Kleins Story

We get the story behind Klein. So even without ‘Colditz‘ you understand the story and her. You get a really good take on her character in this story. I really like it that we get so much time on her back story. We find out how she come to use the TARDIS and what Johann Schmitt had to do with all of it. The story not just give us a great picture of her, it also shows us a side of the Doctor that I love and many people like to ignore. His dark side.

The Vrill and Winterlack

The Doctor and Klein arrive in a cave and find a species that is like big insects that communicate by smell. Thank god that the TARDIS can even translate this language. The Vrill have two big problems. The first is a Vrill warrior that kills everything in his way also the new hatchlings. The second is the winterlack. Nor Klein or the Doctor know what the winterlack are but it killed so many of the vrill. It seems like only 4 Vrill have survived the winterlack.

On their own

To call Klein a great companion would be wrong, but she is amazing and really interesting. She can analyse a situation and knows to hold herself against the unknown. You never quiet know what she is up to and if the concern for the Vrill is true. It is really hard to tell if she learnt or just waits. But that makes her such a great addition. The Doctor is way trusting even with not trusting her.

Listen or not

I really like this story. The story around Klein is really interesting and can’t wait to see how this all works out. Also the Vrill are really sweet. The name giving is great. Butterfly for a warrior this is so the Doctor. Let’s go and listen to this great story.

DW: A Thousand Tiny Wings

Hey Guys,

welcome to the 130th Big Finish Main Range Adventure ‘A Thousand Tiny Wings’ with the 7th Doctor. He is on his own. The story takes place in Kenia 1952. 5 women are hiding in an old farmhouse from the Mau Mau Uprising. One of this women is someone the Doctor knows from a past adventure with Ace. In ‘Colditz’ he had met Doctor Klein and here she is again in the life of the Doctor.

Doctor Klein

I haven’t listen to ‘Colditz’ yet. She comes from an alternative timeline and worked for the Nazis. From her view the Doctor destroyed the right timeline and wants to change it back. She has quite interesting view of the world. The Dynamic between the Doctor and Klein is great. She is not one of the people who look up to the Doctor or believe that he is a good man. No she sees him as manipulating and arrogant. She not that wrong. That is actually why I love the 7th Doctor. He is really good in manipulating people.
She is really intelligent and she cares about people. There are two world views crashing and it totally is the reason the story works so well.

Injured alien

The five women find an injured alien and bring him into the farmhouse. It is great who these women work with each other and are so different in her ways of seeing the world and the way the deal with it. Denise is one of my favorite. She saves the alien and gives him a name. She believes that just because everyone is acting crazy you still act like an english person. So one moment she holds a reveal in the face of the Doctor and the next she is inviting him for tea.

The mysterious death

Next to the Mau Mau uprising and the alien the Doctor and the five women have to deal with mysterious death. The victim is covered with tiny little stretch. It is amazing who all the part of the story work so well together. The characters work so well together with all there quarrel and different views. Also it is interesting to see the change in the people. I am really excited to listen to the other stories with the Doctor and Klein.

DW: Mission of the Viyrans

Hey Guys,

welcome to the 102b Big Finish Main Range Adventure ‘Mission of the Viyrans’. It is the second story on the ‘Mind’s Eye’. This story is about Peri and the Viyrans. The fifths Doctor has a small role. Ahistory places the story around 2684 on the planet Grallista Social. It is a really short story but it still offers a lot. In the context with the other stories.

Meeting the Viyrans

This is actually the first adventure with the Viyrans. We get here the most information about the Viyrans. We get a bit of their history and what they do. I really like the idea of the Viyrans. They are a good enemy without really being an enemy. They want to help but have a really single-minded way to see the world. I really like to find out more about them.

This story gets concluded with the ‘Patient Zero‘. ‘Mission of the Viyrans’ is playing after the accident in ‘Patient Zero‘. I liked the story before. It is a short story and it focused on one Companion. The idea and the solution is great. But when you put it into context with the other stories. This little story get’s even better and more important.

I kinda like it that this story plays after ‘Patient Zero‘ and ‘The Bride of Peladon’ even when both are released later. So you have to revisited the stories and put them in the right order. You have to think when it happened, how every thing slides into the right place. The stories aren’t told in a line but a bit Timey-Wimey stuff.

So yeah go and listen to this story. It is a short great story. You don’t need any knowledge about the stories before with Peri. Erimem get’s mentioned but it is not important to know her or her story to understand what is going on in this story.

DW: The Blue Forgotten Planet

Hey Guys,

welcome to the 126th Big Finish Main Range Adventure ‘The Blue Forgotten Planet’ with Charley, Charley/Mila and the sixth Doctor. It ends the story of ‘Patient Zero‘. The story takes place on earth. There is no time given or any indication which year it is. Ahistory placed it in 2009. It has to take place before the mankind’s space age. With a few other pieces of the story there are just to times where it works without conflicts with other series. This would be 1930 or 2009.

The Virus

It is actually a little creepy that I finally find the time to listen to this story I bought like 2 years ago when the world goes crazy over the Corona-Virus. The scariest thing about this whole thing is the fear of losing our job or existence as a business. This story shows us a story about a virus. A world with a madness and somehow I feel like I live right now in a world of madness. It is another madness but still to close to home.
But that is something Doctor Who always could do really good.

Charley against Charley/Mila

Charley and Mila finally meeting each other and there is a lot of confrontation between them and between the Doctor and them. It is time for the truth and it is not easy to tell the truth when all you did was trying to hide it. Charley couldn’t let go of the Doctor and she had to lie to hold on to him. Mila needed to become Charley so she could travel with the Doctor. So what is truth? This is actually really great. India Fischer does a great job with the discussion between the both of the Charleys.

Goodbye…

This is an end of an era. I loved Charley, I got annoyed by her. She has a great chemistry with the sixth Doctor. Big Finish made me cry again. I cried for Mila, for Charley, for the Doctor… this story is really great. It hints to so much more and is also an end for a lot of things. I love it. Charley is great and this is a great end for her. I am sad that the sixth Doctor and Charley don’t have more adventures together. But I am also excited to were the Doctor is of to now.

DW: Paper Cuts

Hey Guys,

welcome to the 125th Big Finish Main Range Adventure ‘Paper Cuts’ with the sixth Doctor and Charley/Mila. The story takes place in 2090. The Doctor says it is 60 years after he visited Draconia but the Mother Queen means it is just 50 years. It is not said which incarnation had visited 50/60 years before. The book ‘Doctor Who and the Space War’ says it was the second one, but the booklet shows the first Doctor.
The story starts where the last story ‘The Patient Zero‘ stopped sadly the action of this story doesn’t have such big impact on the story that I hoped.

Summoned to the fuernal

Charley/Mila finds a summoning of the great emperor of Draconia. The Doctor followed this summoning and finds out that the emperor is dead. This emperor seems to had made a few difficult decision that doesn’t go well with the a few people like the priest or his son. But more important is that there is ritual that has to take place so the son can become the new emperor. For this ritual are four people summoned the Doctor, the son of the emperor, the soldier and Gomori.

Paper warriors

What would a funeral and ritual to become a new emperor without killing paper Sazous? It is hard to say more about the story without spoiling everything. But the more interesting storylines all start later. What is the meaning of the ritual and the after life. It is about revolution, about change and about playing chess. About planing at least two move ahead.

Listen or not

The story is really good. I really like it. The relationship between the Doctor and the dead emperor is interesting and I loved to see more of this. Like I sad before the Mila story doesn’t have a big inpact. Most of the story is like a normal Charley Doctor story. I hoped that Mila would have a bigger role instead of just being Charley. But maybe all that comes in the next episode.

DW: Patient Zero

Hey Guys,

welcome to the 124th Big Finish Main Range Adventures ‘Patient Zero’ with the sixth Doctor and Charley. Patient Zero is hard to place in time. In this story they talk about traveling ‘so far into the past’ but the story ‘To the Death’, which is shaped with some of the consequences of this story, claims it takes place in the future. So Ahistory put it around 7190.
This story is also concluding a story that started with ‘Urgent Call‘ (Bonus Story of ‘I.D.’) and plays also a part in stories like ‘Urban Myths‘ (Bonus Story of’Exotron’), ‘The Vanity Box‘ (Second Story of the Wishing Beast) and ‘Mission of the Viyrans‘.

The Amethyst Viral Containment Station

The Doctor finally demands answers from Charley but before she can give them she fades in and out of existence. She caught a virus, which itself seems to be a problem, because the TARDIS seems to protect them from this stuff. The Doctor tries find to out how to save Charley. The search leads him to the Amethyst Viral Containment Station. This station works for the Viyrans. But we also meet the Daleks again.

Daleks and time

In this story the Daleks ask for things and don’t shoot first. They traveled in time and seem to be aware that time is a very delicate thing and are not shooting without thinking it through. That is actually something new about the Daleks. The Dalek search for a Patient Zero and they are not willing to give up. It is what I really like in this story is that the Daleks are acting with content and the Doctor using the Daleks. ‘Know your enemy.’ It leads to a very great end and I love it.

Blind Passenger

We also have a blind passenger on board of the TARDIS or maybe she is just a imagination of Charley. The girl is a little fangirl of the Doctor and claims to be his companion and that she is a long time with him when he still had gray hair. This leads to a very interesting story. That will be influence the next stories very much and I am really excited to find out where it leads to.

Listing or not

Definitely listen to it. The sixth Doctor and Charley has such a great and easy chemistry. They had fallen in place so easy that even the Doctor himself finds it weird. He can’t let her die and he doesn’ t understand why it is so much more important to him than everything else. He has to deal with her and his feelings, with the Daleks and Fratalin and nobody helping him.
